Psychiatric Clinic
General Information
Psychiatric
services are available to eligible students,
currently enrolled at Virginia Tech. The clinic
is located on the second floor of McComas Hall
in the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center. Hours
are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Services Available
Psychiatric evaluations and treatment,
medications may be prescribed if indicated;
individual and group therapy are provided in
collaboration with the counseling staff.
Treatment for ADHD with stimulant medication
including Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin or
Dexedrine is only available after a diagnosis is
confirmed with Psychoeducational Testing.

Schedule an Appointment:
Call the Cook Counseling Center at 231-6557.
Schedule a triage appointment with a counselor
and the counselor will evaluate your symptoms
and can assist with a referral to psychiatry, if
psychiatry services are needed. Your counselor
may also recommend individual therapy, group
therapy or participation in CCC workshops, such
as relaxation training.
A referral to psychiatry may also be made by a Schiffert Health Center medical practitioner (Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) after an evaluation has been completed and a referral is considered medically appropriate.

Cook Counseling Center and Screening for Mental Health, Inc. offer free and anonymous online screening for depression, alcohol use, eating disorders, and anxiety. The online screenings are informational, not diagnostic, and treatment recommendations are not provided. Online screening is made available so that Virginia Tech students may find out whether consultation with a Cook Counseling Center counselor may be helpful.
