Eligibility and Limitations of Services
Services from Cook Counseling Center are available to all students who have paid their health fee. Because of resource issues, the center utilizes a focused treatment model and generally sees students on a two to three week basis. After the initial evaluation, the clinician will discuss treatment options with the students. In some case, (e.g., when long-term therapy is indicated, if the student needs to be seen more intensively than is possible at the center, or when a service is not available through Cook), the optimal treatment plan may involve referral to a practitioner in the community. Staff at the Counseling Center can help with referral to the appropriate provider.
Cook Counseling Center's Online Screening Module
Cook Counseling Center and Screening for Mental Health, Inc. offer free and anonymous online screening for depression, alcohol use, eating disorders, and anxiety. The online screenings are informational, not diagnostic, and treatment recommendations are not provided. Online screening is made available so that Virginia Tech students may find out whether consultation with a Cook Counseling Center counselor may be helpful.
