Training Programs in Professional Psychology
In keeping with the educational mission of the university, Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center is committed to the practical training of mental health professionals as they complete their academic programs and pursue professional licensure. The experiences provided at the Counseling Center are intended to provide the graduate student with skills and experience relevant to generalist clinical practice with specialty expertise in working with a college population. As such the following types of training experiences are offered:
Practicum
(Externship)
This experience is intended for clinical
psychology, counseling psychology or counseling
doctoral graduate students generally in their
2nd or 3rd years of doctoral training.

APA-approved Doctoral Internship in
Professional Psychology
This experience is intended for clinical or
counseling psychology doctoral graduate students
who have completed all of the academic
requirements of their doctoral training except
for dissertation, including completion of all
coursework and passing of their departmental
comprehensive exam.

Post-doctoral Residency
This experience is intended for graduates of
doctoral clinical or counseling psychology
programs who wish to obtain supervised
post-degree experience toward professional
licensure.
