Postdoctoral / Post-Internship Fellowship in Psychology

Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech offers a 12-month postdoctoral training position in professional psychology. This position offers recent psychology graduates an opportunity to gain supervised experience working with a college student population in a university counseling center. The fellow would be expected to participate in the full range of services offered by the Counseling Center including provision of individual therapy, group therapy, triage and intake, crisis intervention, consultation and outreach. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to supervise practicum students in group supervision, and to engage in research / program evaluation. A concentration in sport psychology is possible. With the emphasis in Sport Psychology, the fellow will gain supervised experience working with Division I and nationally competitive club sport student-athletes; this will include individual clinical work with athletes as well as individual and team performance enhancement.
The fellowship begins on or about August 25, 2012.The stipend for this full-time position is $31,000. Benefits include annual, sick, and professional leave, eligibility to receive primary care services through the student health center, and staff library privileges. Fellows receive two hours of individual supervision weekly and preparation time for licensure.
Applicants for this position must have completed all academic and internship requirements for a doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology except for dissertation (ABD) by the start date listed for the position (doctoral degrees in related fields considered). Previous experience in working with college-aged students is required. Applications should include a cover letter and statement of interest, current curriculum vita, and three letters of reference.
