Doctoral Internship in Counseling and Clinical Psychology
Benefits
- $21,000 annual wages. The intern year begins August 10 and ends on August 09.
- Annual leave - 16 hours earned per month (unused leave is not reimbursable at end of internship)
- Professional leave - 4 days
- Sick leave - 120 hours of annually
- Holidays - include Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day.

Interns may receive
services at the
Schiffert Health Center.
The cost of the student health fee is paid by the CCC. This means that interns are eligible for
all Health Center services which include:
Unlimited practitioner visits, primary care
medications, annual gynecological exams,
allergy services, laboratory services and all
health education and wellness services. While
most services are covered by the fee, some
services do have extra charges e.g. certain
medications, x-rays and lab tests. These
charges are discounted and are well below the
market prices for private care.
- As employees of Virginia Tech, interns are covered under the university liability policy
- Interns are allowed 2 hours per week of research time which may be used either for in-house research or dissertation completion
- Interns are eligible to purchase a faculty/staff parking permit
- Interns may obtain staff library privileges
- Interns may utilize recreational facilities at McComas Student Health and Fitness Center as well as War Memorial Gym.
- Interns may be approved to attend off-site workshops or conferences at the discretion of the Director, as well as other on-campus continuing education activities sponsored by the Counseling Center.
- Each intern has a private office equipped with a desktop computer and a printer. A laptop computer is also provided in office.
- Interns receive an e-mail account and have ethernet access to the Internet in their offices.
- All senior staff and intern offices have wall-mounted video cameras. Live observation and video playback is possible from any staff office via an internal cable network. Each intern office is also equipped with a two-way observation mirror.
- Each office is equipped with a panic button for added security.
- Interns enjoy the same access to clerical support as the senior staff with front office staff available to answer phones and schedule client appointments. In addition, clerical assistance is available with the scoring of some psychological tests.
- Access to Division of Student Affairs Information Technology staff is available to assist all staff with computer hardware and software issues, as well as with questions about web design.
Malpractice Insurance
Cook Counseling Center and Schiffert Student Health Services moved into the new McComas Hall facility in August 1998. The building also houses Recreational Sports.
