Introduction
Outreach and Consultation is an integral part of the internship training. Interns are expected to actively participate in the center’s outreach and consultation services. They are required to develop and implement outreach programs that are developmental and preventive in nature.
Intern Outreach Training
Seminar
The interns meet with a senior staff in a seminar that focuses on the detailed exploration of models and techniques of outreach. This seminar is both didactic and supervisory. The seminar provides interns the forum to discuss presented programs, upcoming programs, and their projects. In addition, interns’ skills and goals will be assessed as well as the discussion of the role of consultation in the development of psychologists.
Goal
Develop the skills needed to plan and develop high quality programs, training, and consultation services to a university community
Objectives
- To demonstrate knowledge of models and theory utilized in the design and implementation of outreach and consultation services
- To demonstrate competent facilitation and presentation skills
- Demonstrate leadership and mentoring skills in outreach and consultation with practicum students
- To become familiar with the process of forming relationships with units on campus
Activities
- Develop psycho-educational programs that are topic-focused and provide preventive and developmental interventions to the entire campus community or to specific groups or organizations.
- Supervise practicum students’ outreach and consultation activities
- Facilitate a mock presentation
- Each intern will conduct three programs per semester
Outcome measures:
- The interns attend and actively participate in outreach and consultation seminars
- Discuss practicum outreach and consultation activities
- Facilitate high quality topic-focused psycho-educational program
- Make the required number of outreach programs
