APA Accredited Internship in Clinical and Counseling Psychology
ASSESSMENT SEMINAR
2006-2007
Facilitator: Cathye Griffin Betzel, Psy.D.
Goals:
The internship training program will provide a training experience in the types of assessments typically conducted in university counseling centers and outpatient mental health facilities.
Objectives:
Interns will demonstrate competency in the administration, interpretation, and communication of results of selected academic, personality, and vocational test-based assessments, as well as interview-based assessments.
Activities:
- Interns will participate in Assessment Seminar through presentation of assessment results, review and discussion of recorded or observed administration and feedback sessions, discussion of assigned readings, and presentations of assessment instruments or techniques.
- Administration of at least 4 test protocols is to be completed within the internship year. One of these protocols is administered to clients from individually or culturally diverse populations. Two protocols should be completed by the end of Fall Semester.
- In addition, interns will administer individual tests in each of the 3 areas of academic, personality, and vocational assessment.
- Interns will conduct interview-based intake assessments.
- Interns will video-record or schedule live observations of selected administration and feedback sessions for purposes of supervision and discussion.
- Interns will set aside 2 hour assessment blocks on their schedules on a rotating basis to use for test administration, report writing, assessment supervision, or test instrument familiarization.
- Interns will choose an assessment instrument and facilitate discussion of administration and interpretation of the instrument using one of their cases as an illustration.
- Interns will read articles or chapters as assigned.
Outcome measures:
- Records of the completion of individual assessment instruments are kept by the CCC in the EMR database.
- Completed protocols are recorded by the Assessment Seminar Leader, and reports are co-signed by a licensed psychologist, usually the Seminar facilitator.
- Records of completed Intake assessments by interns are kept by the CCC in the EMR database.
- Completion of assigned readings
Miscellaneous:
- Case discussions are an integral part of this seminar and will take precedence over scheduled topics (except in the event of an invited speaker). As such, this syllabus represents an outline that may change as based on intern needs and interests.
