Doctoral Internship in Counseling and Clinical Psychology
Letter from the Training Director
Dear Prospective Psychology Intern:
The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center (CCC), Schiffert Health Center (SHC), and the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at Virginia Tech are pleased to offer doctoral internship in psychology. Our psychology intern program began in 1995 and received full APA accreditation in 1997. This web site includes links to the training brochure, application materials, resources at Virginia Tech, and Blacksburg and the New River Valley.
The psychology internship at CCC offers numerous opportunities for professional development in a relaxed and supportive environment. The program follows a practitioner-scholar model of training which fosters interns gaining experience in psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and applied research. CCC places particular emphasis on individual and group supervision of interns, and psychology interns receive a minimum of 5 hours of individual and group supervision per week.
I am hopeful that the information provided here will answer many of your questions and be helpful in your decision making process. Please do not hesitate to contact me (cbetzel@vt.edu) if you have questions or if you would like to give feedback about our website.
Internship is a time of exciting personal and professional growth and development. I congratulate you on reaching this point in your training as a psychologist, and wish you all the best in the internship process.
Very truly yours,
Cathye
