Blacksburg and the New River Valley

Virginia Tech is located at Blacksburg, Montgomery County, in scenic Southwestern Virginia. Blacksburg is now Virginia's largest incorporated town, offering easy access to most of the amenities of life. Virginia Tech is the major employer in Montgomery County and the New River Valley, and is the hub of cultural and recreational activities in the area. The area has a relatively low cost of living, and is known for it's relaxed small town flavor.

Blacksburg lies on a plain between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, 2,100 feet above sea level. The area is noted for natural beauty, healthy atmosphere, and outdoor recreational opportunities. In the New River Valley and close by you will find opportunities for hiking, camping, canoeing, skiing and white water rafting. Roanoke, the major commercial hub of the area, lies 38 miles east of campus and is easily accessible over four-lane highways.
