The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center (CCC) offers a variety of free counseling groups and workshops for Virginia Tech students. Often the number of participants per group is limited. Therapy groups are often viewed as equally or more helpful than individual counseling because of its interactive and community emphasis. Positive Thinking Workshops Our thoughts affect the way we behave and feel. Attend this workshop/seminar and learn how to think more positively and realistically. Monitoring and challenging old habits may help you feel better about yourself and the world around you!

Becoming at Ease Around People If your heart pounds and your palms sweat at the thought of meeting someone new and you find yourself staying alone in your room even though you'd like to get out and have friends, this group may be for you! The goal of this group is to help students who experience a lot of discomfort or anxiety in social situations to develop skills for interacting with others and become more socially comfortable. In a relaxed, supportive atmosphere, you will learn some new approaches to dealing with situations you find difficult. You will also find that you are not alone! Concerned about Post-4/16 reactions? The Cook Counseling Center is offering a walk-in group for students to discuss their concerns. Healing and Recovery: For Women Affected by Sexual Trauma This 8-week group gives women a space to discuss the current impact the trauma may have on their lives and to exchange with each other ways for self-care and empowerment in a safe and supportive environment. Topics may include: dynamics of sexual violence, depression and anger, relationships, guilt and shame, trust, boundaries, grief and loss, and self-esteem. Body Image Support Group This group meets weekly throughout the semester to discuss body image dissatisfaction and related topics such as family and interpersonal relationships. The Body Image Support Group includes education on a variety of topics as well as open discussion.

Cook Counseling Center's Online Screening Module
Cook Counseling Center and Screening for Mental Health, Inc. offer free and anonymous online screening for depression, alcohol use, eating disorders, and anxiety. The online screenings are informational, not diagnostic, and treatment recommendations are not provided. Online screening is made available so that Virginia Tech students may find out whether consultation with a Cook Counseling Center counselor may be helpful.
